Bad Habits That Can Make You Fat

Almost everyone has bad habits that can lead to sitting with excess weight which can be detrimental to your body and your health. Let us take a closer look at some of these potentially harmful habits.

Consuming Low Fat Foods

Various foods on the shelves in your local store or supermarket are labeled as either fat free or low fat. Just how good are they for you? Most of these foods leave you feeling hungrier once consumed as they are laden with certain chemicals and sugars in an effort to replace the fat content of non fat free products. Look at the info on low fat foods below.

Description                                                 Fat Grams                                     calories

1 ounce of low fat Cheddar                                    5                                                80

Note regular, Cheddar                                            9.4                                             114

1/2 cup of Cottage Cheese, 2% low fat             2                                                 100

This is just an example to illustrate that there is not much difference between the regular foods and the low fat or fat-free ones.

Fat Free Salad Dressing

Another common misconception is for people to belief that they doing good in making use of low fat or fat-free salad dressing when they consume salads. According to recent nutritional analysis on fat free salad dressings, it generally is very low in cholesterol and saturated fat. But, unfortunately very high in sodium (known for retaining water) and high in sugar (Often times worse than fat for adding excess weight).

97% Fat Free Deli Ham For Your Work Lunches

Some people make use of fat free deli ham that is said to be 97% fat free. While you might think it is a good thing, it is not necessarily the case.

While the fat free deli ham has 0% saturated fat, it is still very high in cholesterol and sodium which causes other problems that is not conducive to good health.

Other Bad Habits That Contribute To Your Waist Line

One of the worst things you can do, which is often times the trend most people follow as we all lead very busy lives, is to skip meals. You are doing your body great harm and putting it into shock mode in making it belief you are going to starve it. Therefore, it holds onto the fat reserves within your body in fear of starvation, which in turn will cause you to struggle when trying to lose stubborn fat.

Eating in a hurry is another bad habit most of us develop as we always have something that we need to do, but are also in need of eating to feed our bodies. It is best to set aside time for your meal and eat slowly as our tummies can take up to 20 minutes to tell the brain it has had enough food.

Watching TV while snacking is another bad habit we get involved in as we may think it to be boring to just sit and eat while doing nothing. Beware, as statistics show that we tend to eat more while watching television. If you really have to snack on something while watching your favorite program, try snacking on a bowl of fresh grapes, cut veggies, or even air pop popcorn.

Whatever you do, always make sure that you take note of bad habits that make you fat, and make sure that you make the necessary changes to put you on the road to a better physique and good health.
